Your business’s website is often the first point of contact between you and your customers. As such, you want to ensure you are making a good first impression that is going to turn a potential customer into a returning customer.

Second, you want to ensure your customer is greeted properly when they first arrive to your site, similar to how a receptionist or someone in your store would greet them. This is achieved by having a home page that clearly lets your customers know who you are and what you are selling. Studies show that the average person spends around 7 seconds on a website before moving on. Therefore, it’s critical that you capture their attention right away.
Third, it needs to be easy for your customers to navigate through your website to find what they are looking for. Descriptive links / buttons are essential so that your customers can find the answers to their questions quickly and easily. It’s also important to have your contact information clearly presented so that your customers can reach you if they have any questions.
And finally, you want to engage your customers and create an online dialogue with them. Social media is a great way of doing this (here’s my blog where you can learn more). Well managed social media channels can help you connect with your customers and offer them inside information or special deals and incentives to keep them coming back.
Although the list above is a simplified overview of what creates a good website, it helps articulate the essential elements of an effective online presence. The key is in ensuring your website has captivating content which includes images that represent your brand as well as text that helps your customers understand why your business stands apart.
